My Approach

I approach each client as a unique individual whose complex internal experiences cannot be fully encapsulated by a single diagnosis (although diagnoses can still be helpful) or readymade treatment formula. As a client shares more of themself and what makes them ‘tick,’ I adapt my approach and offer interventions that I believe are most likely to resonate with them.

Throughout this process, the fuel that powers the therapy is the unique relationship we build as therapist and client during our sessions. Together we will collaborate to help make sense of what you are experiencing, understand the factors (either past or present) that may be influencing those feelings, and shift your relationship to those feelings and subsequent behaviors in ways that allow you to feel more empowered and fulfilled.

As a clinician who has found significant therapeutic benefits in feeling seen and understood in the creative expressions of others–whether through visual art, writing, or music–I may sometimes share excerpts from poetry, literature, and other artistic works that resonate with my understanding of a client’s experience.

I may also offer to incorporate my dog (a small chihuahua mix, pictured here) into sessions with clients who find comfort in the presence of animals.

For those seeking a more technical description: I utilize an integrative, trauma-informed approach that incorporates elements of psychodynamic, attachment-based, humanistic / existential, and cognitive behavioral (CBT) therapies.
